The Altbach is a 6.2 km long brook and a right branch of the Eckbach in the northeastern Vorderpfalz ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). It has no spring , but is created - like a total of six watercourses, all of which run approximately parallel and of which it is the strongest - by draining water from the Eckbach for the purpose of agricultural irrigation . The water of the Altbach is returned to the Eckbach via the Schrakelbach .

course

South of Laumersheim is at 114  m above sea level. NHN a part of the Eckbachwassers derived as Altbach to the right. This then flows in an easterly direction on the south side of Autobahn 6 ( Saarbrücken - Mannheim ), passing Gerolsheim to the north; there the approximately 3 km long Weihergraben flows from the right . Then the Altbach crosses under the motorway from south to north, swings again to the east and takes on the somewhat weaker Kühweidegraben from the left , another 4 km long irrigation arm of the Eckbach. The Altbach flows south past Heuchelheim and gradually moves away from the autobahn route up to 400 m. It flows west of Beindersheim in the northern area of the Frankenthal motorway junction at a height of about 96  m from the left into the Schrakelbach, which in turn reaches the Eckbach 1 km further.

Irrigation ditches on the middle Eckbach

At the middle Eckbach in the vicinity of Großkarlbach , Laumersheim, Dirmstein and Heuchelheim, the following irrigation ditches are successively derived from the Eckbach, the filling of which later flows back either directly or via the Schrakelbach to the Eckbach:

  1. Weihergraben, after 3 km confluence from the right into the Altbach, water over Schrakelbach to the Eckbach
  2. Altbach, after 6.2 km confluence from the left into the Schrakelbach, water on to the Eckbach
  3. Kühweidegraben, after 4 km confluence from the left into the Altbach, water over Schrakelbach to the Eckbach
  4. Altgraben, after 3.5 km confluence from the left into the Kühweidegraben, water via Altbach and Schrakelbach to the Eckbach
  5. Brittinggraben, after 3 km confluence from the right into the Eckbach
  6. Lerchengraben, after 3 km confluence from the right into the Eckbach

If necessary, water can be exchanged via cross connections between the individual trenches.
