history

The parcel on which the Altgarz settlement is located today was called Hohe Gartz in 1721 . In the following year, a brick factory was built in the district , which was later expanded into a Vorwerk and from 1749 into a colony. The suffix "Alt" was added in 1773 after the colonist settlement of Neugarz was founded. Altgarz belonged to the Ruppinische Kreis in the Mark Brandenburg , which was continued after 1815 in the Prussian province of Brandenburg as the Ruppin district . On April 1st, 1936 Neugarz was incorporated into Altgarz.

After the regional reform in the GDR , Altgarz belonged to the Kyritz district in the Potsdam district from July 1952 to January 1958 , after which it was reorganized into the Rathenow district . On May 1, 1974, Altgarz was incorporated into Großderschau . After reunification , Altgarz was in the Rathenow district for three more years , which in December 1993 merged with the Nauen district to form the Havelland district.
