Amphoe Bang Krathum ( Thai อำเภอ บางกระทุ่ม ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the south of Phitsanulok Province . The Phitsanulok Province is located in the northern region of Thailand .

etymology

The name Bang Krathum refers to “settlement” ( Thai บาง bang ) and the “rose blossom tree ” ( Anthocephalus chinensis , Thai กระทุ่ม krathum ).

geography

Bang Krathum is mostly located within the Mae Nam Nan (Nan River) basin . In contrast, a narrow strip of land in the west is located in the basin of the Mae Nam Yom (Yom River) . Both rivers flow to the Mae Nam Chao Phraya . While the Yom forms the western border from Bang Krathum to Phichit Province , the Nan, the Khwae Wang Thong (Wang Thong tributary) and the Wat Ta Yom flow through the district.

Amphoe Bang Krathum is located in the south of Phitsanulok Province and, viewed from the north, borders clockwise to the following Amphoe: Mueang Phitsanulok and Wang Thong in Phitsanulok Province and the Amphoe Sak Lek , Mueang Phichit and Sam Ngam in Phichit Province .

history

The small district ( King Amphoe ) Bang Krathum was established in 1927 by amalgamating three subdistricts of Amphoe Mueang Phitsanulok with three subdistricts of Amphoe Pa Mak. In 1946 it was upgraded to a full amphoe.

economy

Bang Krathum's economy is dominated by agriculture and livestock. The main crops are rice , sugar cane and bananas . There are also companies that manufacture and package dried fruit, including dried bananas and tamarinds, and sell them throughout Thailand and export them abroad. A larger plant for extracting sugar from sugar beet also works in Bang Krathum, which is operated by Phitsanulok Sugar Co. Ltd. is operated.

Attractions

There are 39 Buddhist temples ( Wat ) in the Amphoe Bang Krathum , of which Wat Krungsri Charoen ( วัดกรุง ศรี เจริญ ) has a historically interesting chedi .

Local administration

There are four small towns ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the county:

  • Bang Krathum (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บางกระทุ่ม ) consists of parts of the Tambon Bang Krathum,
  • Noen Kum (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เนิน กุ่ม ) consists of the entire tambon Noen Kum and Wat Ta Yom,
  • Huay Kaeo (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ห้วย แก้ว ) consists of further parts of the Tambon Bang Krathum,
  • Sanam Khli (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สนาม คลี ) consists of the entire Tambon Sanam Khli.

There are also five “Tambon Administrative Organizations” (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Administrative Organizations) for the tambon in the district that do not belong to any city.
