Amphoe Mueang Phitsanulok ( Thai อำเภอ เมือง พิษณุโลก ) is a district ( Amphoe - Administrative District) in the Province of Phitsanulok . The Phitsanulok Province is located in the northern region of Thailand . The city of the same name Phitsanulok is the capital of the district and the province.
geography
Phitsanulok County is about 380 kilometers north of Bangkok , with a total area of 750.8 km² (469,250 Rai ). The Mae Nam Nan (Nan River) flows through Phitsanulok and flows through the west of the province from north to south.
Neighboring counties are (clockwise from north): Amphoe Phrom Phiram , Wat Bot , Wang Thong , Bang Krathum and Bang Rakam of Phitsanulok Province.

The district of Phitsanulok, like the city of Phitsanulok, forms an important traffic junction on the highways from central - to northern Thailand and from Tak to the Isan , i.e. the south-north and west-east connections in Thailand: the national road No. 12 runs through the city that crosses National Road 11 about 15 kilometers east of the city . The good transport connections are also associated with brisk trading activity.

Attractions
- Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat (also Wat Yai , "big temple") - Buddhist temple complex ( Wat ) with a 36 m high, top gilded prang in Khmer style. The viharn with its triple staggered roof has large entrance doors with mother-of-pearl inlays from the 18th century. There is Phra Phuttha Chinnarat , a Sukhothai-style Buddha statue that is highly venerated by Buddhists across the country. This statue was the model for the statue of the same name in Wat Benchamabophit , Bangkok.
- Wat Ratchaburana - one of the oldest temples in Phitsanulok, near Wat Yai
- Folklore Museum - views from earlier times, items of everyday life and a complex of several beautiful Thai houses; the museum is privately run (English explanations).
- Wat Chulamani - temple complex south of Phitsanulok, in which King Boromatrailokanat (15th century) was buried.
- Naresuan Shrine - on the floor of the ruined Chandra Palace that is currently being excavated and restored
- Wat Aranyik and Wat Chedi Yod Thong - Buddhist temples from the Sukhothai period (13th-15th centuries)
- Statue of King Naresuan on the Naresuan University campus - the statue was designed by the Fine Arts Department and is approximately twice life size (2.80 m high); it weighs approx. 2000 kg . It shows the king in combat clothing, sitting on the throne, pouring water from a golden container; this symbolizes the newly won independence of the Ayutthaya Empire. The king's face was modeled after the original model by Prof. Silpa Bhirasri . The statue was ceremonially unveiled on August 31, 1993 in the presence of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn .
- The station building in Phitsanulok, which is based on central and southern German half-timbered buildings , was designed and built between 1906 and 1912 by the German architect Karl Döhring .

Phitsanulok itself ( เทศบาล นคร พิษณุโลก ) has big city status ( Thesaban Nakhon ) , it consists of the complete Tambon Nai Mueang.
Aranyik ( เทศบาล เมือง อรัญญิก ) is a city ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the district, it consists of the entire Tambon Aranyik.
There are also five small towns ( Thesaban Tambon ) :
- Ban Mai ( เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน ใหม่ ) consists of parts of the tambon Wang Nam Khu and Wat Phrik,
- Phlai Chumphon ( เทศบาล ตำบล พลาย ชุมพล ) consists of the entire tambon Phlai Chumphon,
- Hua Ro ( เทศบาล ตำบล หัวรอ ) consists of the entire Tambon Hua Ro,
- Tha Thong ( เทศบาล ตำบล ท่า ทอง ) consists of the entire Tambon Tha Thong,
- Ban Khlong ( เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน คลอง ) consists of the entire Tambon Ban Khlong.
