Amphoe Phu Phiang ( Thai : อำเภอ ภู เพียง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the center of Nan Province . Nan Province is located in the northeast of the northern region of Thailand .

geography

Neighboring (clockwise from the north) are the Amphoe Santi Suk , Mae Charim , Wiang Sa and Mueang Nan . All of the Amphoe are in Nan Province.

history

The area of ​​today's county was separated from Amphoe Mueang Nan on July 1, 1997 in order to establish a new "branch district" ( King Amphoe ) . With the publication in the Royal Gazette "Issue 124 chapter 46" on August 24, 2007 Phu Phiang officially received full amphoe status.

Linguistic origin

The name Phu Phiang comes from the Phu Phiang mountain, on the top of which is the famous chedi of Wat Phra That Chae Haeng.

Attractions

  • Wat Phrathat Chae Haeng (Thai: วัด พระ ธาตุ แช่ แห้ง ) - over 600 years old Buddhist temple complex ( Wat ) with a 55 m high, gilded Chedi from the Sukhothai period , which is said to contain a relic. Also worth seeing are the traditional Naga decorations on the Wihan . In Thai folk Buddhism, it is a popular pilgrimage destination for people born in the year of the rabbit.
