The Amsterdam is a cruise ship of the American shipping company Holland-America Line that entered service in 2000 .

history

The Amsterdam was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera , Italy . She was launched on January 7, 2000 and delivered on September 30, 2000. In October 2000 the ship was christened in Boston and put into service on October 30th. The Amsterdam initially sailed under the flag of the Bahamas with home port Nassau .

Today the Amsterdam sails under the flag of the Netherlands.

In July 2020 the Amsterdam and its sister ship Rotterdam were sold to Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines known in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic . The ships are to be taken over in September 2020 and renamed Bolette and Borealis . There they replace the Boudicca and the Black Watch .

Sister ships

The Amsterdam is the last of four Rotterdam- class ships (also known as the R-class), which also includes the Volendam , the Zaandam and the Rotterdam . The ships have similar dimensions, but sometimes different deck layouts.
