The Noordam is a Holland-America Line cruise ship . She is already the fourth ship to be named Noordam and is therefore referred to as Noordam IV .
history
The ship was in 2005 at the Italian shipyard Fincantieri in Marghera on down Kiel and handed over to the shipping company in the spring of 2006. On February 22, 2006, the christening by the godmother, the deaf actress Marlee Matlin , took place in New York City . From there, the maiden cruise to the Caribbean started .
The Noordam is the sister ship of the Zuiderdam , the Westerdam and the Oosterdam . The four ships have the Dutch names of the four cardinal points on the compass. The Arcadia , which is also identical, was ordered by the Holland-America Line, but sold to P&O Cruises .
Areas of application
Between spring and autumn, the ship is on various routes in the Mediterranean , in the winter half-year the Noordam cruises from Fort Lauderdale in the Caribbean as well as around New Zealand and the South Seas.
drive
The ship has an integrated electric drive and is powered by five marine diesel engines. Three of these engines achieve an output of 16,000 hp each, and two others each achieve 12,000 hp. There is also a gas turbine with an output of 18,000 hp. This results in a total drive output of almost 90,000 PS (66,176 kW). The electricity generated by these motors is required on the one hand for the two ABB propeller pods , each with 23,500 hp, and on the other hand for the rest of the on-board supply. The ship's own water treatment plant can produce 1,700 tons of drinking water per day, of which only 750 tons are required every day. The fuel consumption is 216 tons of heavy fuel oil and 90 tons of marine diesel oil per day at maximum load.
