The office of Bernstein was an electoral Brandenburg, later a royal Prussian domain office, which was formed in 1561 (?) From the property of the secularized Bernstein monastery . It was lent to von Wulkow in 1571, bought back in 1728 and initially assigned to the Dölitz office in Pomerania. From 1744 it became independent again. It was dissolved in 1872/4.

location

The official territory of the Bernstein Office was not contiguous. Bernstein and Bärfelde were an almost exclave of the Arnswald district , almost entirely located in the Pyritz district of Pomerania. Only in the southwest did the Stadtfeldmark von Bernstein border the Soldiner district of the Mark Brandenburg over a short stretch . Siede was separated from the rest of the official area by the Hohengrape field mark, but bordered on the city field mark of Berlinchen. Hohengrape originally belonged partly to Pomerania, partly to the Arnswald district. After the exchange in 1773, only two fireplaces belonged to the Arnswalder Kreis, the rest was owned by the nobility and belonged to Pomerania. The area of the Bernstein office including Hohengrape came to the Soldin district in the district reform of 1816/7 .

After the Second World War, the former administrative area came to Poland and is now located in the powiat Choszczeński in the southwest of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship .

history

In 1290 Margrave Albrecht III donated. the Cistercian convent Bernstein , in what was then the state of Bernstein . The state affiliation of the monastery or the state of Bernstein changed several times between Pomerania and the Mark Brandenburg from 1315. In 1561 (?) The monastery was secularized and its possessions converted into a sovereign office (Amt Bernstein). Since 1535 the area was definitely part of Neumark and until 1571 to the Brandenburg sub-principality of Brandenburg-Küstrin .

In 1571 the former monastery properties were loaned to the von Wulkow family. 1727-29 they were acquired by the Treasury from the bankruptcy estate of the deceased Privy Councilor and Director Georg von Waldow for 60,000 thalers and initially assigned to the Pomeranian Office of Dölitz . They were leased from 1735. In 1744 the former monastery properties became independent and the Bernstein office was created for it. The official seat was the former Bernstein Monastery. Until 1802 it belonged administratively to the Szczecin Chamber of Commerce in Pomerania, only then to the Neumärkischen War and Domain Chamber .
