On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act on October 1, 1879, a district court was established in the city of Eisenberg in the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg, whose court district was formed from the district of the previous Eisenberg court office. In 1883 Friedrich Edmund Pilling became the head of the local court.

After the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg, which had only been founded two years earlier, had risen in the state of Thuringia in 1920 , the Eisenberg district court continued to operate as the Thuringian district court since 1921. The superordinate instance was the Altenburg Regional Court until 1923, and the Weimar Regional Court since then .

At the beginning of 1952, the Eisenberg district court became a branch of the Jena district court . With the administrative reform in the GDR in 1952 and the associated abolition of the local courts, the Eisenberg local court was repealed. The Eisenberg District Court was its successor .
