The Hamburg-Wandsbek District Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction and a cultural monument in Hamburg-Wandsbek . It is one of eight district courts in the District Court of the District Court of Hamburg .

History and buildings

After the German-Danish War , the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein became Prussian provinces in 1867. In the course of the administrative reorganization, a "Royal District Court" was created. As its successor, the courthouse with prison was built in 1908 according to plans by Paul Thoemer . The plastered buildings with ashlar integration in the style of the German Renaissance show the influence of the contemporary Berlin architecture.

Inside the building there is still a courtroom in the style of the beginning of the century and a staircase from this period. Both have also been used as film sets.

The former prison was used as a youth detention center until 2005 . The facility was renovated from October 2012 onwards and the rooms will be available to the local court from July 2014. The address of the local court is: Schädlerstrasse 28, 22041 Hamburg .

Transport links

The district court is a few minutes' walk from the central shopping area around the Wandsbek market square with the subway station and bus station Wandsbek Markt and the Hamburg-Wandsbek train station (line R 10).

Jurisdiction and jurisdiction

The district court of Wandsbek is locally responsible for an area of approx. 46.5 km² with around 183,000 inhabitants in the east and northeast of Hamburg. This represents only a part of the political district of Wandsbek, namely in addition to Wandsbek the districts of Rahlstedt, Tonndorf, Jenfeld, Marienthal and Eilbek. In the rest of the Wandsbek district, either the Hamburg-Barmbek District Court or the Hamburg District Court is responsible. Considerations to extend jurisdiction to the entire district were abandoned. The district boundary can be seen on this map  on OpenStreetMap .

In fact, the jurisdiction includes all legal matters assigned to the local courts, with the exception of judicial dunning proceedings , insolvency proceedings and agricultural matters and decisions under the Transsexual Act , commercial , association and shipping registers . These areas are processed by the Hamburg District Court.

Superior courts

The Hamburg Regional Court is directly superordinate to the Wandsbek District Court . The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court is superordinate to this as the competent higher regional court .
