history
In the Duchy of Nassau , jurisdiction in the first instance was carried out by the offices, in this case the Wiesbaden office . The bailiff acted as a single judge. The offices were also administrative authorities and courts of first instance. However, the office was only responsible for civil litigation. The criminal court acted as the court of first instance in matters of criminal law. Second instance in civil law issues was the Court and Appeal Court of Wiesbaden (1832 to 1849 with seat in Usingen ).
After the March Revolution of 1848, a separation of administration and jurisdiction was introduced (law of April 4, 1848). The administrative tasks were transferred to the newly created Wiesbaden district office, the jurisdiction remained in the offices that were now referred to as the judicial office. After the victory of the reaction , these reforms were reversed in Nassau and the old offices reinstated. The only exception was Wiesbaden, where the division persisted. The judicial office remained the court of first instance until Nassau was annexed by Prussia in 1866 and was converted into a royal Prussian district court in 1867.
Judicial officers of the Wiesbaden judicial office were:
- 1854–1864: Ludwig Dübell
- 1864–1866: Wilhelm Friedrich Christian Jeckeln
On April 3, 1897, the courthouse at Richtstrasse 2 was inaugurated and the Wiesbaden district court and regional court moved into it. In November 2009 the move to the justice center on Mainzer Straße took place.
