The district of Anchihuay is located in the province of La Mar in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was formed on September 12, 2013 from parts of the La Mar district. It has an area of ​​267 km². The 2017 census counted 4501 inhabitants. The district administration is based in the village of Anchihuay , located on the west bank of the Río Apurímac at an altitude of 752  m , with 1072 inhabitants (as of 2017). Anchihuay is 46 km east-northeast of the provincial capital San Miguel .

Geographical location

The district of Anchihuay is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the central east of the province of La Mar. The district is bounded in the northeast by the Río Apurímac flowing to the north.

The district of Anchihuay borders in the southeast and in the south with the district Anco , in the west with the district San Miguel , in the north with the district Samugari and in the northeast with the districts Kimbiri and Villa Kintiarina (both in the province La Convención ).
