Andrea Navedo
Andrea Navedo (born October 10, 1977 in Bronx , New York City ) is an American actress and singer . She is known for playing Xiomara Villanueva on the CW dramedy series Jane the Virgin and starred in the soap operas Love, Lies, Passion and Springfield Story . In later years she had supporting roles on prime time television several times .
Life
Navedo was born in the Bronx . She is a second generation New Yorker Puerto Rican who grew up in New York . She says she could empathize with her character in Jane the Virgin since her mother was also a single mother.
In 1995 she graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School . In 1998 she successfully completed her bachelor's degree with a focus on communicative and creative arts and with a focus on theater at the State University of New York at Old Westbury.
She was also featured in an article by DeWitt Clinton Notable Alumni along with other famous alumni such as Stan Lee .
She has been married since 2000 and has two children, a daughter and a son.
In 2014, Navedo was cast as Xiomara "Xo" Villanueva, mother of the title character (played by Gina Rodriguez ) in the critically acclaimed dramedy series Jane the Virgin . For her performance she received the Imagen Award 2015 for best supporting actress - television.
