Andreas Weiss (* 1952 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German conductor .

biography

At the age of 16 he made his podium debut with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Singspiel Bastien and Bastienne , then studied conducting in Frankfurt with Helmuth Rilling , Jiří Stárek and Karl Maria Zwißler , as well as horn and school music. In addition, he attended numerous master classes, among others with Rafael Kubelík .

In 1981 he was included in the national selection of concerts of young artists by the German Music Council , followed by multiple awards and special prizes at international competitions, such as the Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors and the Hungarian Television International Conductor's Competition .

From 1982 to 1984 he was a permanent guest conductor with the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen and from 1987 to 1988 with the Philharmonie Südwestfalen . From 1985 to 1993 he was the musical director of the Frankfurt Chamber Opera .

In 1986 he was appointed professor of conducting at the Karlsruhe University of Music . In addition, he is involved in promoting young, talented musicians, for example at the annual Collegium Musicum Schloss Pommersfelden .

He works with a variety of orchestras at home and abroad, including the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra , Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra , the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Budapest Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio .

He plays with soloists such as Ulf Hoelscher , Christoph Prégardien , Maria Kliegel , Nachum Erlich , Lidia Grychtołówna , Günther Kaunzinger or Kalle Randalu .

His students include Klaus Breuninger , Vykintas Baltakas and Frank Düpree .
