Andrej Šporn (born December 1, 1981 in Kranj ) is a former Slovenian ski racer . He was mainly active in the downhill and super-G disciplines.

biography

In December 1996, Šporn took part in his first FIS races , and from January 1999 he played in the European Cup . On December 10, 2001, he competed in his first World Cup race, the slalom in Madonna di Campiglio . It took more than three years for him to win World Cup points for the first time on January 4, 2004, finishing 20th in the Flachau slalom . A week later he surprised in Chamonix in sixth place in the combination . At the beginning of the next winter, he reached eighth place in the Beaver Creek slalom .

However, the following two years were marked by numerous failures and non-qualifications for second runs. Šporn made a gradual change from the technical to the fast disciplines, in which he hoped for more success. In the 2005/06 season he reached fifth place in the Hahnenkamm combination of Kitzbühel and sixth place in the super combination of Chamonix. After rather mediocre performance in the following years, he surprised on January 23, 2010 with second place in the Hahnenkamm run in Kitzbühel. Further top 10 results in descents followed.

Šporn participated twice in the Olympic Games and three times in the world championships. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin he was 15th in Super-G, in 2010 in Vancouver in the same discipline 18th. At the 2005 World Championships in Bormio , he was eliminated in both slalom and combination; at the 2007 World Cup in Åre , he finished 19th in the downhill. After not taking part in the 2009 World Championships, he reached sixth place in the downhill and 20th place in the Super-G at the 2011 World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

From 2001 to 2005, Šporn won gold, silver and bronze medals at Winter Universiaden . From 2004 to 2008 he was Slovenian champion five times .

After the 2017/18 season he retired from active ski racing.
