Andreu Fontàs Prat (born November 14, 1989 in Banyoles ) is a Spanish football player who is under contract with Sporting Kansas City .

Club career

Fontàs first played in his youth for CD Banyoles , a club from his hometown. After eleven years with this club, he moved to FC Girona in 2006 . There he was actually intended for the youth team, but then played at the end of the season with the first team in the Tercera División .

After that season he was courted by many Spanish clubs and ultimately decided for FC Barcelona . Fontàs was named captain of the A youth team of FC Barcelona and reached the final of the Copa del Rey de Juveniles de Fútbol , the Spanish Cup for the juniors , in the 2007/08 season .

For the 2008/09 season he rose to FC Barcelona B , the reserve team of the first team. He completed 20 league games for the B-Team this season and also made his debut in the first team of FC Barcelona when he played in the semifinals of the Copa Catalunya against UE Sant Andreu on September 8, 2008 . Fontàs was also in the squad for the first team's league game against RCD Mallorca on matchday 36, but was not used.

On the 1st match day of the 2009/10 season Fontàs then played his first league game for FC Barcelona . In the game against Sporting Gijón he was substituted on for Gerard Piqué when the score was 3-0 . Later in the season he only played once for the first team in a 5-0 win in the Spanish Cup against Cultural Leonesa . Fontàs continued to play regularly this season, in 26 games, for Barcelona B. Shortly before the end of the season, Fontàs was injured so badly that he was out for three months.

On the 12th match day of the 2010/11 season Fontàs was the first time on the starting line-up in a league game of the first team. In the 8-0 win over UD Almería , he gave the template to Pedro's 4-0 goal , with a pass over half the field. On 7 December 2010, he played in the final group game of the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League against Rubin Kazan and scored his first goal for Barça in his team's 2-0 win. After the failure of Éric Abidal , Fontàs was appointed to the first team on March 17, 2011 for the remainder of the 2010/11 season. For the 2011/12 season Fontàs was included in the first team. In October 2011 Fontàs extended his contract until 2015.

On October 15, 2012 Fontàs was loaned to RCD Mallorca within the league until the end of the season. The loan deal outside the transfer period was exceptionally possible after some Mallorca players were out for a long time due to injuries.

For the 2013/14 season Fontàs moved within the league for one million euros to Celta Vigo . FC Barcelona also secured a buyback option. In Vigo he meets coach Luis Enrique , who already trained him at Barça B.

National team career

With Spain's U-19 team, he won the 2008 Copa del Atlántico , a tournament that is played in the Canary Islands .

In 2009 he won in the U-20 national team of Spain Pescara held Mediterranean Games . He also took part in the 2009 Junior World Championship with Spain's U-20s . Fontàs was used in the three successful group games, in the last sixteen against Italy he was only on the bench.
