action

Anna, a young lay sister, is very popular with her patients. The young woman wants to take her vows as soon as possible . One night an accident victim is hospitalized and Anna is painfully confronted with her past at the sight of the man. It's Andrea, to whom Anna was once engaged. While he is being operated on, the young woman's thoughts go back into the past. She also thinks of Vittorio, a barman with whom she had a passionate relationship. When she met Andrea and they both fell seriously in love, Vittorio fought doggedly for her. Anna eluded him by escaping to Andrea on the estate. But here too Vittorio pursued them and even did not shrink from violence. Andrea came to her aid. Vittorio suddenly had a gun in his hand and wounded Anna on the shoulder. The two men were fighting when suddenly a shot went off and Vittorio was fatally hit.

Anna remembers that she came to this hospital to heal her shoulder injury and that it was here that she made the decision to become a nun and put her life in the service of others. When she later sits by Andrea's bed, she feels torn. She still loves Andrea. When he is better, Andrea asks her again to become his wife. After a moment's hesitation, she says yes to him. She now wants to give up her future life as a nun and also leave the hospital forever. On the day they say goodbye, however, a serious train accident occurs with numerous injuries who have to be treated in their hospital. Anna knows that she is needed now and does without Andrea. She will become a nun and in future dedicate her life entirely to nursing.
