Anna Teut

Anna Teut (* 11. November 1926 in Frestedt ; † 23. February 2018 in Berlin ) was a German journalist , publicist and architecture historian .

Life

Anna Teut grew up on a farm in Dithmarschen. After studying theology , philosophy , literature and art history in Mainz, Göttingen and Kiel, in 1952 she became a volunteer for the Protestant weekly Deutsches Allgemeine Sonntagsblatt, published in Hamburg . She later followed editor-in-chief Hans Zehrer to the daily newspaper Die Welt ; initially to Hamburg, then from 1956 to 1960 she headed the Berlin feature pages editorial team. She then worked as a freelance writer for various daily newspapers and specialist magazines in the fields of architecture, urban planning, design and art. In 1981 Teut founded the architecture magazine Daidalos - Berlin Architectural Journal with Ulrich Conrads , Norbert Miller , Werner Oechslin and Bernhard Schneider .

In addition to her literary work, the Bauwelt Fundamente series published the book Architecture in the Third Reich , in which she was the first to deal with the consequences of Nazi rule in the field of architecture. She was a co-founder of the International Design Center (IDZ) in Berlin, curated and organized exhibitions such as Essen in der Arbeitswelt (1971) and the traveling exhibition Living in the Federal Republic (with Ulrich Conrads and Hans Paul Bahrt). As a member of the planning advisory board of the then building senator Rolf Schwedler , she sat down a. a. for the preservation of the Bethanien Hospital . In 1995 she was co-founder and 2nd chairwoman of the Max Liebermann Society, wrote several books about Max Liebermann and made a significant contribution to the creation of the Liebermann Villa Museum on Wannsee . This museum was opened in this villa in 2006, after tough cultural and political battles. With a few colleagues she founded the Freundeskreis Schloss Freienwalde , a small Prussian royal estate in the Oderbruch, which Walter Rathenau had acquired in 1909 and made his refuge. She campaigned for the renovation of the facility, as well as for the renovation of the family grave of ( AEG ) founder Emil Rathenau at the Oberschöneweide forest cemetery . In the period 1983-84 she was the first female chairman of the German Werkbund .

She was married to the architect and university professor Georgije Nedeljkov from Yugoslavia ; their daughter Nina Nedelykov also became an architect.

Teut's friends included Arieh Sharon and the Israeli architect Al Mansfeld (1912–2004), co-builder of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

Anna Teut rests in the Dorotheenstädtischer Friedhof in Berlin-Mitte .
