Anne Weber (born November 13, 1964 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German author and literary translator .

Life

Anne Weber attended the Wolfgang-Ernst-Gymnasium in Büdingen and passed her Abitur there in 1983 . She has lived in Paris since 1983 . There she studied French literature and comparative literature at the Sorbonne . From 1989 to 1996 she worked for various French publishing houses. In addition, she translated texts by contemporary German authors and non-fiction books into French . Her own works, which have been published since 1998, were initially written in French and later translated into German. Anne Weber is now writing her texts again first in German, and then translating them into French.

With Anne Weber you can be sure “that she dares a new literary experiment with every new book,” judged Ijoma Mangold . With her novel Valley of the Glories (2012) she “succeeded in the experiment to make the afterlife narrative without entering into a religious obligation.”

Your autobiographical long essay Ahnen. A time travel diary , which appeared in France and Germany at the same time in early 2015, deals with her great-grandfather Florens Christian Rang (1864–1924). Alexander Cammann wrote about this book: “The fact that this widespread search for origins succeeds is due to the narrator Anne Weber. [...] In fact, we follow their changes of position, as well as their work with and on the words. It is great art, as Anne Weber is able to do, to turn the story of an intellectual marginal figure like Florens Christian Rang, interwoven with her own fate as an illegitimate daughter, into a paradigmatic narrative about the search for origin that still worries many Germans .

Anne Weber's novel Kirio was on the shortlist (fiction) of the 2017 Leipzig Book Fair Prize . In 2020, her novel Annette, a heroine epic about Anne Beaumanoir, won the German Book Prize .

Her partner Antoine Jaccottet, a son of Philippe Jaccottet , works for the publisher Le Bruit de Temps and was previously an editor at Gallimard .
