Anselm Karl Elwert

Anselm Karl Elwert (born January 18, 1761 in Dornberg ; † June 17, 1825 there ) was a Hessian state and government councilor.

Anselm Karl Elwert was the son of the bailiff in Dornberg Ernst Elwert (1729–1791) and his wife Marianne Johannette Juliane nee von Passern (1734–1764). Elwert, who was a Protestant denomination, married Luise née Rang (* in Worms ; † 1820), the daughter of the pharmacist in Worms Georg Melchior Rang. The following children were born from the marriage:

  • Ernst Georg Wilhelm Elwert (1788–1863), councilor and member of the state parliament
  • Adelheid Elwert (1793–1814)
  • Emilie Elwert (1796–1806)
  • Auguste Elwert (1800–1806)

Elwert studied in Giessen and Göttingen and in 1784 became the princely Hesse-Darmstadt official assessor in Dornberg. In 1794 he became an official administrator and in 1798 an official in the Dornberg office. In 1803 he was given the title of Government Councilor and in 1820 was honored with the Order of Ludwig .

After the formation of the district of Dornberg , he became its first district administrator in 1821 . He contracted a fatal illness during the great flood in the winter of 1824/1825.

Works

In addition to his administrative work, he worked as a lexicographer and writer. Significant works were:

  • Unprinted remnants of old song, along with pieces of modern poetry . Warrior the Younger, Marburg 1784.
  • Small artist's lexicon or rational directory of the most distinguished painters and engravers. Edited for the benefit of beginners in the arts and art lovers . Krieger, Marburg 1785.
