Anselm Franz Baron von Ritter zu Groenesteyn was the first child of the Kurmainzer Hofgerichtspräsident and Privy Councilor Caspar Wilhelm Baron von Ritter zu Groenesteyn and his wife Odilia Anna Maria née Baron Spies von Büllesheim .

The de Ridder family is first mentioned in a document in 1240 in the knighthood of the Archbishopric of Utrecht . Since 1405 a branch of the family has been named after the Groenesteyn family estate.

Life

In 1706, Anselm Franz von Ritter zu Groenesteyn and his brother Heinrich Valentin began their studies at the University of Mainz . Initially, it was a school education at the local Latin school . The doctoral thesis (written in Latin) on "Selected Legal Issues About the Nature of Lottery" was published on November 14, 1714.

On December 28, 1743 he married Eleonore Franziska Freiin von Riedt, the daughter of the Electoral Mainz privy councilor and fortress commander Philipp Wilhelm Freiherr von Riedt. The marriage had four children, all of whom died in childhood.

On December 19, 1750 he was dismissed as court marshal due to illness and was appointed Vice Cathedral of the Rheingau .

Architectural work

He had the Schwalbacherhof in Kiedrich (Rheingau), which had come into family ownership through the marriage of the heir's daughter and grandfather, down and built Groenesteyn Castle here in 1730, a baroque three-wing complex with a chapel. As a plasterer he chose Georg Hennicke from Mainz , a pupil of the French Jean Bérain , who also worked in the pilgrimage church of the Holy Blood in Walldürn .
