The Anta district is located in the Carhuaz province in the Ancash region of western Peru . The district was established on November 28, 1910. It has an area of ​​43.2 km². The 2017 census counted 2520 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2326, in 2007 it was 2368. The district administration is located in the 2424  m high village of Anta with 783 inhabitants (as of 2017). Anta is located 10 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Carhuaz .

Geographical location

The Anta district is located on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Negra in the center of the Carhuaz province. The Río Santa flows north along the eastern district boundary. The 3050 m long runway of the airport Aeropuerto Comandante FAP Germán Arias Graziani ( IATA : ATA) is located directly on the river bank .

The Anta district is bordered to the south by the district Yungar , the west by the district Pariacoto ( Huaraz Province ), in the northwest on the district Carhuaz , north to the district Marcará and the east by the district Pariahuanca .
