Anthar Yahia ( Arabic عنتر يحيى, DMG ʿAntar Yaḥyā , first name also: Anther and Antar ; * March 21, 1982 in Mulhouse , France ) is a former Algerian - French soccer player .

Career

society

The central defender played in his youth at FC Sochaux , where he turned pro in 1999. For the 2000/01 season Yahia moved to Inter Milan in the Serie A . There he did not prevail and therefore moved back to France to SC Bastia in 2001 . After working in Corsica until 2005 , he was looking for a sporty improvement and switched to OGC Nice . There he was a regular player in the first season, but then came on fewer and fewer appearances. That's why he wanted to leave the club.

In January 2007, Yahia was invited to a test match by Bundesliga club VfL Bochum , in which he made a good impression. On January 29, 2007, he was loaned until the end of the season, with the option of a subsequent 3-year contract. VfL Bochum pulled the said option and committed Yahia for 800,000 euros. After Hertha BSC obviously showed interest in Yahia, Bochum refused him permission to move. Finally, an agreement was reached on an early extension of the contract until 2011 at higher salaries. In 2009/10 VfL Bochum was relegated from the Bundesliga, but Yahia remained loyal to the club. On October 12, 2010, he prematurely extended his contract with VfL by one year until 2014.

In July 2011, Yahia moved to Saudi Arabia for an estimated 750,000 euros to the first division club Al-Nasr . In 2012 Yahia went to 1. FC Kaiserslautern and signed a contract there until June 2015. He made his debut for Lauterer on February 5, 2012 in a game against 1. FC Köln under coach Marco Kurz .

On January 14, 2013, his move to the Tunisian club Espérance Tunis was announced. In January 2014 he moved to AO Platanias in Greece, where he only stayed until the end of the season. From there he went to SCO Angers in the French first division, from where he was loaned to US Orléans in January 2016 . In 2016 he ended his career and became sports director at Orléans.

National team

Yahia made her debut for the French U16 in 1998 in the European Championship qualifier against Switzerland. It was his only match for the U16s.

He then played two European Championship qualifiers for France's U18s in 2000, but, as with the U16s, did not reach the final tournament in Finland.

Yahia was the first player to benefit from FIFA's rule changes regarding international eligibility . So Yahia could now play for Algeria. He played his first game for the Algerian U23 in a qualifier for the 2004 Olympic Games against Ghana. There he scored the 1-0 winner with his head.

From then on, Yahia was nominated for the senior national team . There he made his debut on January 15, 2004 in a friendly against Mali. Yahia then competed with the Algerian team in the 2004 Africa Cup . There Algeria reached the quarter-finals. He also competed with the country in qualifications for the 2006 African Cup and the 2006 World Cup . In November 2009, the Algerians had the decisive qualifying game for the 2010 World Cup in Egypt. There, the Algerian team bus was pelted with stones by Egyptian hooligans, glass panes were broken and several players suffered head injuries. Yahia said after the incident that everyone crouched on the floor of the bus and feared for their lives and said that the Egyptian security forces had not prevented the hooligans from throwing the stones. Yahia described the behavior of the Egyptians as "shameful". Nevertheless, the match took place according to plan. Egypt won 2-0 - Algeria and Egypt were at the top of the group with the same point and goal after the last game. Thus, a playoff in Sudan's capital Khartoum had to determine a World Cup participant between the two. On November 18, 2009, Yahia scored the decisive 1-0 for Algeria in the 40th minute and thus led his country to the 2010 World Cup. In the 67th minute, however, the new national hero had to be replaced due to an injury. For the African Cup of Nations 2010 in Angola , Yahia was nominated, but could not play a game due to his injury. Yahia was also present at the World Cup in South Africa and was sent off with yellow and red shortly before the end of the last group game against the USA. On May 1, 2012, he announced his resignation from the national team on the grounds that he wanted to make room for a new generation. He completed 53 games for the national team and scored six goals, from 2010 he was captain of that.
