Anthony Scaramucci (2016)

Anthony Scaramucci (born January 6, 1964 in Port Washington , Long Island , New York ) is an American hedge fund manager and author. On July 21, 2017, US President Donald Trump appointed him communications director- designate of the White House . He held the office unofficially for only ten days until July 31, 2017 and was dismissed before Trump was officially appointed. Officially, he would have taken office on August 15, 2017. Scaramucci reported directly to the President, not the White House Chief of Staff .

Life

Scaramucci was born the son of a construction worker. He graduated from Tufts University and received at the Harvard Law School with a degree in law ( Juris Doctor ).

Scaramucci worked for Lehman Brothers and Goldman Sachs , among others . In 2005 he founded the New York investment firm SkyBridge Capital . In January 2017, he sold his 45 percent stake in the company to a group of buyers that also included the Chinese HNA Group and RON Transatlantic.

In 2008 Scaramucci worked as a fundraiser for the future US President Barack Obama . Dissatisfied with Obama's policy towards the financial industry, he moved to the Republican camp in 2010 . In the 2012 presidential election Scaramucci supported the Republican candidate Mitt Romney . In the primary elections for the 2016 presidential election , he first collected donations for the Republican Jeb Bush , but switched to Trump's camp after his internal party defeat. When Trump took office, he was not given a post in his government.

On American television, he moderated the Fox News Channel program Wall Street Week . After being nominated for Trump's transition team in November 2016, he gave up this position.

In response to the appointment Scaramuccis as White House Communications Director gave Sean Spicer , the White House Press Secretary , on July 21, 2017 his resignation on 1 August 2017.. Scaramucci then announced that Sarah Huckabee Sanders - until now Spicer's deputy - should be Spicer's successor. As communications director, Scaramucci was responsible for the entire communications strategy of the White House. In the months leading up to his appointment, Scaramucci stood out primarily for his aggressive defense of Trump's policies.

In August 2015 he called Donald Trump a “political useless” (in the original hack politician ) on Fox News and certified him “anti-American rhetoric”. When reporters approached him about these remarks after his appointment as communications director, Scaramucci described them as "one of his greatest mistakes". At that time he supported another presidential candidate. “I should never have said that.” In this context, he deleted his old tweets on July 22, 2017, stating “[…] Earlier views have evolved and should not be a distraction. I serve the President's agenda and that's all that matters . ”( Past views evolved & shouldn't be a distraction. I serve @POTUS agenda & that's all that matters ). In these short messages he criticized Trump's planned construction of the wall on the border with Mexico, promoted free world trade and spoke out against Brexit . He had also called for stricter gun laws and criticized climate skeptics.

On July 27, 2017, a journalist from the New Yorker made public that Scaramucci had pressed him over the phone to find out from whom he had received information from the White House. When the journalist refused to reveal the informant, Scaramucci insulted the White House chief of staff, Reince Priebus ( Reince is a fucking paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac , "a damned paranoid schizophrenic") and Trump's chief strategist Steve Bannon ( I'm not Steve Bannon I'm not trying to suck my own cock , "I'm not Steve Bannon. I'm not trying to suck my own cock. I'm not trying to build my own brand on the president's damn ('fucking') strength. Me I'm here to serve the country. "") After the quotes were published, Scaramucci apologized on Twitter for his "colorful choice of words" ( I sometimes use colorful language. ).

He held the post of communications chief in the White House until July 31, 2017. His dismissal had been enforced by John F. Kelly in his capacity as the new chief of staff in the White House .

family

Scaramucci is married for the second time. In July 2017, his wife, with whom he has two sons, filed for divorce after three years of marriage. From his first marriage he has a daughter and two sons.

Trivia

Scaramucci has the nickname The Mooch (German "Der Bettler / Schnorrer").
