Club career

Career start in Florida

Anthony Alexander Wallace was born in 1989 in the New York borough of Brooklyn as the son of the Jamaicans Anthony and Audrey Wallace and also has an older sister named Amanda, who has worked for the US company Wal-Mart in her later hometown of St Petersburg is employed. At the age of about two, Anthony Wallace and his family moved to the aforementioned St. Petersburg in the sunshine state of Florida . There he attended the local Lakewood High School after elementary school and junior high , where he also played in the school's soccer team, and completed his school education there in 2006. At the same time, the Jamaican footballer, who at that time was mostly used in the defensive field, was also used for the teams at the Edison Academic Center , which is part of the IMG Soccer Academy based in Bradenton , from 2004 to 2006 . At the age of 14 he was accepted into the Olympic Development Program and through this program also came into first contact with the US American Football Association and its youth national teams. As a former fan of Tampa Bay Mutiny , especially goalscorer Roy Lassiter , he regularly attended the games of his favorite team in his youth and decided at that time to get into professional football himself. After a successful stint in Bradenton, Wallace was accepted into the University of South Florida in 2006, where he was eventually employed on the men's soccer team of the University Sports Department, South Florida Bulls . With the Bulls, he started in all 19 championship games and came to the only assists in the Freshmen season, which should also remain the only one he completed at a university. Immediately afterwards landed Wallace a generation Adidas -Vertrag and came across the MLS Super Draft 2007 in the Major League Soccer , the top division in North American soccer.

Via FC Dallas to the Colorado Rapids

In the SuperDraft, he was drafted as the ninth pick in the first round to FC Dallas in Texas . There the versatile player, who can be used in all midfield and defensive positions, was only used very sporadically and spent most of the time in the reserve team with play in the MLS Reserve Division . He made his professional debut on September 15, 2007 in the 2: 4 away defeat by New England Revolution , where he was used as a central midfielder, played from the start and was replaced by Arturo Alvarez from the 69th minute onwards. This was his only professional appearance this season . In addition, a total of ten out of twelve possible appearances in the reserve team followed. In the following season he tried to break through in the professional team, but again only made a few appearances in Major League Soccer. This time he already made five league appearances, four of which were from the start, but was far from asserting himself as a regular player. Also this season he made ten appearances in the club's reserve team. In the 2009 game year it seemed as if the defensive player was slowly making his way into the professional team, before a serious knee injury threw him off track in mid-September and he had to take a break for the rest of the season. By this time he had made six starts in a total of seven league appearances, with almost 500 minutes of use. Already in the following season there was a change of native New Yorkers, who could only collect limited game practice. After only two short appearances for the club from Frisco , a suburb of Dallas , Wallace moved on July 30, 2010 within the league to the Colorado Rapids .

The change came about when the Colorado Rapids made a four-round pick for the MLS SuperDraft 2011 and another pick in the MLS SuperDraft 2012 to FC Dallas in exchange for Anthony Wallace . One of the reasons for his early departure was, among other things, the inclusion of the two mostly left-back players Jair Benitez or Heath Pearce , through which he had to give up a possible regular place in the defensive line of the franchise and was thus in a certain way forced to less match practice . The young defensive man also worked on his breakthrough at the Rapids, which he occasionally achieved when he played in a total of seven league games from the start by the end of the season and was also used in all four play-off games of his team. With the team he finally won the MLS Cup , the final game of every MLS season, against his former club, FC Dallas, 2-1 after extra time. This season he also succeeded in making his first assist in professional football. In addition, he was elected by the team on November 24, 2010 through the league expansion by two new teams in the MLS Expansion Draft 2011 by the Portland Timbers , after he was previously approved by his team. Due to the allocation rule and the associated sum of money, the Jamaican defensive all-rounder was brought back to the Colorado Rapids before the new season had even started. In the current 2011 game year (as of June 29, 2011) , Wallace seems to be slowly but surely making the breakthrough, whereby he has already made nine league appearances and one assist.

National team career

After Anthony Wallace had already gained experience with the US Football Association and its various national selections as a 14-year-old through the Olympic Development Program , or ODP for short , he was regularly used in the US U-17 selection from 2004 for the he had made a total of 46 games by around 2006. In addition to nine assists, he also scored four hits in the opposing goal. This probably also includes the nine missions that he completed with the U-17 team born in 1989, and which were mostly only played against club, university or local teams. After he was also eligible to play for the U-18 and U-20 national teams during this time and already trained with the U-20 team in 2006 (together with his Bulls teammates Jordan Seabrook and Neven Subotić ) he made his official debut for the team, however, only in the following year 2007. With the team he took part in the U-20 World Cup in Canada in 2007 , where he became one of the youngest players in the US 21-man squad belonged to. In the tournament itself, the team trained by Thomas Rongen finally made it to the quarter-finals, where it was defeated 1: 2 against the strong appearing age colleagues from Austria . In the tournament he was used in four international matches and brought it to the end of his time in the junior national team in 2009 to 25 appearances and two goals. In parallel, Wallace could, among other things, in January 2008 with the U-23 team to train with and finally in December 2010 for a friendly international against Chile national coach Bob Bradley into the senior national team of the United States brought. The game, which was played on January 4, 2011, was part of the Americans' winter training camp. At the beginning of January he finally made his team debut in the 1-1 draw between the Americans and Chile , when he replaced Zach Loyd , who was also making his debut, in the US defensive line from the 73rd minute . A total of six other US-Americans made their team debut that day in addition to Anthony Wallace with Zach Loyd, Sean Franklin , Jeff Larentowicz , Sean Johnson , Chris Wondolowski and Eric Alexander .
