Anton Forti (born June 8, 1790 in Vienna ; † July 16, 1859 there ) was an Austrian opera singer ( baritone ) and violist , chamber singer in the Fürstlich Eszterházy'schen chapel.

Life

Forti began his career as a violist in the Theater an der Wien orchestra . In 1808 he was hired by Prince Esterházy for his theater in Eisenstadt . From May 9, 1814 to 1829 and from February 10, 1838 to 1842, he finally belonged to the ensemble of the Kärntnertor Theater in Vienna.

His most important roles included the title role in Don Giovanni , the Count in Le nozze di Figaro and Sarastro in the Magic Flute .

On July 18, 1814, Forti took over the role of Pizarro in Fidelio at the express request of Ludwig van Beethoven , since the composer's voice of Johann Michael Vogl , who had sung the part when the opera was re-performed on May 23, 1814, was not strong enough for the composer appeared. He also took on the role in the new production, which premiered on November 22, 1822 with Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient in the title role.

Beethoven also valued Forti as a concert singer, so that he took part in the premiere of the cantata The glorious moment on November 29, 1814 . Originally he wanted to entrust Forti with the bass solo at the premiere of the 9th Symphony on May 7, 1824, which Joseph Seipelt then took over.

Forti played the character of Lysiart at the world premiere of Carl Maria von Weber's opera Euryanthe on October 25, 1823.

Forti married the singer Henriette Theimer (1796–1818), a daughter of the oboist Philipp Theimer , for whom Beethoven composed several works on February 17, 1814 . In 1816, Henriette Forti's father, Philipp Teimer, applied for his daughter's divorce from table and bed. Forti's bones were transferred to the grave grove of today's Waldmüller Park in 1923 . His grave there is now lost.
