Anton Hess
Anton Heinrich Hess (born August 20, 1838 in Munich ; † April 11, 1909 there ) was a German sculptor of historicism .
Life
Hess came from a family of artists. His grandfather was the draftsman and engraver Carl Ernst Christoph Hess , his father the glass painter Heinrich Maria von Hess ; his uncle Peter von Hess and his brother August Hess (1834-1893) were history painters .
Hess received his training from Caspar von Zumbusch . In the years 1866–1868, like his grandfather and father, he undertook extensive study trips to Italy. In 1875 he became professor at the Munich School of Applied Arts and in 1909 professor at the Technical University of Munich .

All of Hess' works, carved in stone, include tombs, epitaphs, sacred sculptures and mostly allegorical sculptures on public buildings:
- Allegories of the civic virtues (industriousness, domesticity, civic courage, charity) on the facade of the New Town Hall (Marienplatz 8, Munich), 1869
- Gable group and two figures at the Wilhelms-Gymnasium (Thierschstr. 46, Munich), 1875–1877
- Sculptures of the neo-baroque west facade of the Heilig-Geist-Kirche (Tal 2, Munich), 1885–1888
- The four faculties (Kollegienhaus der Universität , Universitätsstrasse 15, Erlangen), 1886–1889
- Louis Link monument bust (at the Katharinenstift , Heilbronn ), 1892
- four evangelists (high altar of St. Benno , Ferdinand-Miller-Platz 1, Munich-Neuhausen), 1893–1895
- Allegory of Defense (on the attic of the northeastern risalit of the Palace of Justice , next to the Allegory of the Prosecution , Elisenstrasse 1a, Munich), 1891–1898
- Saint Francis and Saint Fidelis von Sigmaringen (north facade of the Capuchin Church of St. Anton and St. Laurentius, Kapuzinerstraße 36, Munich), around 1895
- four figures on the attic of the Bavarian State Archives Bamberg ( Lothar Franz von Schönborn , Eugen Montag , Friedrich III. von Brandenburg-Bayreuth and Balthasar Neumann ).
