Anton von Vogl

Anton Vogl , from 1896 Ritter von Vogl (born March 23, 1834 in Reichenhall , † June 17, 1913 ) was a Bavarian general staff doctor and head of the military medical services of the Bavarian Army .

Life

Vogl was the son of a Bavarian medical officer. After passing his matriculation examination, he moved to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich as a medical student , where he became a member of the Corps Isaria . After completing his studies, he was employed as an assistant doctor in the surgical department of the General Hospital in Munich from December 1857. In 1858 he was the specialist surgery and obstetrics Dr. med. PhD. In August 1858 he joined the Bavarian Army as a junior physician at the Würzburg Command. In April 1859 he was transferred to the Munich Command and on May 14 of the same year to the Infantry Leib Regiment , where he was promoted to battalion doctor on November 25, 1863. During the war against Prussia in 1866 he served as chief physician of the Federal Hospital of Mainz Fortress and in the Franco-German War of 1870/71 with the staff of the 1st Infantry Division , with which he participated in the battle of Wörth and the siege of Paris, among other things . Awarded the Iron Cross on a White Ribbon and the Knight's Cross II. Class of the Order of Military Merit with Swords for his work , Vogl returned to the Infantry Body Regiment after demobilization and was promoted to medical officer there on April 1, 1872.

During the cholera epidemic in Munich in 1874, Vogl worked as the ordinating doctor of the cholera ward in the garrison hospital and received the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of Merit from St. Michael the following year . In 1878/79 he was teaching military health at the Munich War Academy . Promoted to senior staff physician 2nd class in 1878, Vogl was entrusted with the position of chief physician in the garrison hospital in November 1881. In February 1883 he became regimental physician, in July 1883 senior staff physician 1st class. On June 15, 1885, he moved to the headquarters of the capital and residence city of Munich as chief physician of the Munich garrison hospital. From 1889 to 1895 he was transferred as a member of the board to the operation course for military doctors. In September 1890 he was awarded the character as a general physician 2nd class, in September 1893, the surgeon general first class. On June 4, 1895, he was appointed as the successor to Karl von Lotzbeck as General Staff Doctor in the Army and Chief of the Medical Corps and the Medical Department in the War Ministry . In this capacity he received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown on January 16, 1896 . With the award the elevation to the personal nobility was connected and he was allowed to call himself "Ritter von Vogl" after the entry in the nobility register .

After Prince Regent Luitpold had awarded him the Commander-in-Chief of Military Merit at the beginning of January 1900 , Vogl was put up for disposition with the statutory pension on January 24, 1900, with the approval of his resignation petition and being awarded the rank of Lieutenant General with the title “Excellence” . He was also the holder of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class.
