geography
Antrain is located about 25 kilometers west-northwest of Fougères on the Couesnon , which forms the western municipal boundary and into which the Louisance joins here. The municipality of Antrain was surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Sacey in the north and northeast, Saint-Ouen-la-Rouërie in the east, Tremblay in the south, La Fontenelle in the west and Sougéal in the northwest.
history
The area of Antrain was settled since the Neolithic Age, which excavations at the beginning of the 20th century have shown.
During the Roman Empire , the place was at the intersection of several streets.
In the Middle Ages , the place was on the pilgrimage route to Mont-Saint-Michel . After the Battle of Azincourt in 1415, the population increased due to refugees. The population lived mainly from the cloth manufacturers and from the textile dye works. This branch of industry experienced a slow decline in the 18th century, so the population now decreased.
On January 1st, 2019, the municipality of Antrain merged with La Fontenelle , Saint-Ouen-la-Rouërie and Tremblay to form the Commune nouvelle Val-Couesnon.
