working environment
Work environment ( English work environment is) generally, the environment in which the work of a worker is integrated. Specifically refers in the information technology necessary for the user of a computer available to utilities and peripherals for labor and machinery as a working environment.
General working environment
According to DIN 33400, the working environment of a work system is “the spatial environment from which primarily physical and chemical , but also biological (e.g. bacteriological ) influences act on people”. Here, people and work equipment interact in the workflow at the workplace in a work environment under the conditions of this work system. The working environment is therefore the entirety of the working conditions under which personnel work.

The work equipment and tools available there belong in particular to the closer working environment of a workplace . These tools play a functional role in getting the job done . The work equipment is set up in such a way that it can be used optimally during work. The additional work environment includes work rooms in which additional workplaces are permanently set up within buildings ( Section 2 (3 ) ArbStättV ) as well as non-objective conditions such as work organization , management behavior or the working atmosphere . Further work environment also consists of lighting , industrial noise or room air together.
layout
The working environment is to be designed in such a way that general stresses or specific work stresses (e.g. due to intense heat or cold) and dangers (due to pollutants) are avoided and that employees feel as comfortable as possible in the workplace. If the employees are particularly stressed by changes in the workplaces, the work process or the working environment, which obviously contradict the established ergonomic findings on the humane design of work, the works council can demand appropriate measures to avert, mitigate or compensate for the stress ( Section 91 BetrVG ).
Information technology
General
The working environment in the information technology ( English framework , "basic condition", "work environment") is at a workstation for a number of applications , tools , services and documents of the computer . The configuration is also part of the computer's work environment. The ergonomic requirements for the workplace and the working environment in ISO 9241 described -5 and EN ISO 9241-6. The interactions between the work environment and input devices are also addressed in EN ISO 9241-410, those between the work environment and optical output devices in EN ISO 9241-303 and EN ISO 9241-306.
Depending on the task, different components of the hardware , the system software and the application software belong to the working environment . If the term work environment is interpreted narrowly , the respective components technically belong to the equipment of a specific workstation , while in a broader sense they are only available from it , but technically are provided by a server , for example .
Criteria for the architecture of the working environment
- In essence, the application software is often specifically tailored to the work content to be supported . Examples: For business management in general, finance, graphic designers, architects, designers, filmmakers, etc. Standard software or individual software can be used as an alternative .
- For the same reasons, special system software is also used, for example for application development (see Integrated Development Environment ) or for system administrators .
- In some areas, special hardware is also used ( scanners , CNC machines , plotters , etc.)
- Further differentiations can result from the required performance of components - such as memory size, processor performance , transmission rates, etc.
- Basically, the affiliation to certain types of system architectures (hardware and operating system variants) determines the equipment of the working environment - including the usability of application software and the possible principle of the user interface .
Corresponding considerations lead to the provision of different system environments in general and working environments in particular within the framework of the corporate architecture or IT architecture . The bandwidth ranges from as many uniform universal workstations as possible (with which the widest possible scope of use can be covered) to individually configured environments for special requirements.
user interface
One aspect that is important for users is how they can interact with the system and the components provided . User interfaces are divided into graphical user interfaces and command lines (command-oriented operation).
