The Armorique is a Ro-Ro - ferry of the French shipping company Brittany Ferries , on the route between Plymouth and Roscoff is used.

history

The ship was built under construction number 1362 for around 120 million euros at the Finnish shipyard STX Finland . The first steel cut took place on July 30, 2007. The floating of the ship in the construction dock took place on September 13, 2007. The completion of the ship took place on January 26th, the commissioning on February 10th, 2009. The ship was christened on March 7th, 2009 in Roscoff. Godmother was Penelope Fillon, the wife of the then French Prime Minister François Fillon . The ship replaced the Pont l'Abbé ferry, which had been used on the route until then .

The ship is based on the ro-ro ferry Cotentin, which was also built for Brittany Ferries in 2007 . The hull with the ro-ro decks is practically identical, while the superstructures above deck 5 have been adapted to the changed requirements.

The ship's name goes back to the historical name of the north-western coastal region of France.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by two four-stroke - twelve-cylinder - diesel engines from manufacturer Caterpillar : (Type MaK each with 12,000 12M43C)  kW power driven. The motors act on two variable pitch propellers via reduction gears . The ship reaches a speed of 25  knots . The ship is equipped with two bow thrusters , each with an output of 1,200 kW, and a stern thruster with an output of 900 kW.

For power generation two driven from main machines are Leroy-Somer - generators , each with 2,240 kW (2,800  kVA apparent power ), and three of Wärtsilä powered diesel engines generators , two generators with 1,152 kW (1,440 kVA apparent power) and a generator of 720 kW (900 kVA apparent power) are available.

At the beginning of 2016, the ship was equipped with a gas scrubber for exhaust gas desulfurization at the Spanish shipyard Astilleros de Santander .

There is space for 1,500 passengers on board. The ship has 248 passenger cabins with a total of 786 beds. In addition, 15 cots are available, which can be used in the cabins if necessary. In addition to the cabins, 336 recliners are available on board. The passenger cabins are located on decks 8 and 9, the recliners on deck 6. The facilities for passengers, including restaurants and bars, cinemas and shops, are also located on decks 6 and 7. The ship is equipped with fin stabilizers .

There is space for 470 cars or 65 trucks on the ro-ro decks with 985  lane meters . The ro-ro decks can be reached via a bow and a stern ramp and connected to one another in the ship by ramps. In front of the bow ramp there is a laterally opening bow hatch . There is also a fixed ramp on the forecastle. A bulkhead closes the ro-ro deck behind. The two upper ro-ro decks on decks 3 and 5 are continuous decks. They are 5.2 m high. A third ro-ro deck is on deck 2. It is 4.6 m high. By using land-side ramps, the upper ro-ro deck on deck 5 can be loaded and unloaded at the same time as the ro-ro deck on deck 3. In the rearmost area of the ship, the upper ro-ro deck turns into an open deck.
