The Stena Baltica is a ro-pax ferry built in 2007 . The ship is used by Stena Line on the route between Karlskrona and Gdynia .

history

The ship was built as a Cotentin under the hull number 1357 at Aker Yards for Brittany Ferries . The construction contract was signed on August 2, 2005. The launching of the ship took place on 13 April, 2007. The ship was completed on November 9, 2007. The ship reached Cherbourg on November 14, 2007, where it was christened on November 26 . The construction of the ship cost around 80 million euros.

The ship was used by Brittany Ferries on the route from Poole to Cherbourg. It replaced the Coutances there . At the weekend the ferry ran from Poole to Santander . This enabled truck drivers to bypass the weekend driving ban in France .

The ship was named after the French peninsula in Normandy . It sailed under the flag of France with Cherbourg as its home port .

In 2013 the ship was chartered to the Stena Line, which brought it under the flag of the United Kingdom and used it as Stena Baltica on the route between Karlskrona and Gdynia. The ship replaced the Stena Alegra there .

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by two four-stroke - twelve-cylinder - diesel engines from manufacturer Caterpillar : (Type MaK each with 12,000 12M43C)  kW power driven. The motors act on two variable pitch propellers via gears . The cruising speed of the ship is 23  knots . The ship is equipped with two bow thrusters , each with an output of 1,200 kW.

Two Leroy Somer generators with 1,400 kW output (1,750  kVA apparent power ) and two Leroy Somer generators driven by Wärtsilä diesel engines (type: 8L20C) each with 1,386 kW (1,732 kVA apparent power) are available for power generation Available. An emergency generator with 720 kW output (900 kVA apparent output) was also installed.

The ro-ro decks are accessible via a bow ramp behind a laterally opening bow hatch and a stern ramp and are connected to one another by ramps on board. On the back a fixed ramp for loading and unloading is additionally. A bulkhead closes the upper ro-ro deck behind. By using landside ramps, the upper ro-ro deck can be loaded and unloaded at the same time as the ro-ro deck served by the bow and stern ramps. There are 2,188 gauge meters available on the ship,  which can accommodate 120 trucks. The clear height on the ro-ro decks is 5.20 m.

The ship has 116 passenger cabins, most of which are designed as two-bed cabins. A total of 216 beds are available. The passenger capacity of the ship was given by Brittany Ferries as 203 people. Stena Line markets the ship with a passenger capacity of 210 people. A self-service restaurant and a bar are available on board.

The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1B).
