Art Cruickshank

Art Cruickshank (born December 17, 1918 in Massachusetts , † May 22, 1983 in Los Angeles County , California ) is an American special effects artist who received the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 1967 for The Fantastic Journey .

Life

He was hired by Disney in 1939 as an animation cameraman, where he was responsible for the multiplan camera . In 1964 he moved to the special effects department at 20th Century Fox , where he worked on the television series Lost Between Alien Worlds and films such as Doctor Dolittle and Planet of the Apes .

For the film Die phantastische Reise he received an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 1967 . After moving back to Disney in 1971, he was responsible for special effects in films such as Herbie Big in Drive , The Escape to Witches Mountain and Elliot, the Smirking Monster . The black hole followed in 1979 for which he received the second nomination for an Oscar. The last feature film he worked on was The Evil Comes On Quiet Shoes which was released in 1983.
