Artur Odescalchi

Artur Odescalchi (born July 21, 1836 in Szolcsány , † January 9, 1924 in Kremnitz ) was a Hungarian prince , politician and historian in the Kingdom of Hungary . His property was in Szkiczo near Aranyosmaróth , which is now part of western Slovakia .

Life

Prince Artur studied law and history at the Royal Hungarian University , the University of Vienna and the University of Leipzig . With Werner von Watzdorf and Gustav von Metzsch he became active in the Corps Misnia Leipzig in 1856 . He served in the papal army from 1859 and became a captain . From 1868 to 1873 he was a captain in the newly established Honvéd . He later became an Imperial and Royal Chamberlain . He dealt mainly with historical studies and was a founding member of the Hungarian Historical Society in 1867. He published sources from the 14th to 17th centuries and wrote treatises on genealogy and cultural history . For the Independence Party (Hungary) he moved to the Reichstag (Hungary) in 1883 . From 1886 was a non-party member of parliament . Ten years later he became a member of the Magnate House .
