Aselefech Mergia (born January 23, 1985 in Woliso ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who specializes in road running.

Her breakthrough came in autumn 2008 when she first won the silver medal at the World Half Marathon Championships in Rio de Janeiro and then won the Delhi Half Marathon in 1:08:17 h, the third fastest time of the year.

In 2009 she finished second in the RAK half marathon in 1:07:48 h. She then made her debut over the full distance at the Paris Marathon ; there she was second in 2:25:02 h. A victory at the World 10K Bangalore was followed by winning the bronze medal at the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in 2:25:32 h.

In 2010 she was third in the RAK half marathon and the London marathon , second in the World 10K Bangalore and won the Delhi half marathon.

The following year she won the Dubai Marathon . At the marathon of the World Championships 2011 in Daegu , she did not reach the goal. Later in the season, she won the Great South Run and finished third in the Delhi Half Marathon.

In 2012 she defended her title in Dubai and was the first Ethiopian woman to stay below the 2:20 mark.

The 1.68 m tall Mergia, trained by Renato Canova , was also part of the Ethiopian team for the 2012 Olympic Games . In London she covered the Olympic marathon distance in 2: 32.03 hours. This placed them in 42nd place in the final ranking.

On January 23, 2015, she celebrated her third victory in the Dubai Marathon with 2:20:02 h.
