Athanasios "Thanasis" Tsakiris ( Greek Αθανάσιος "Θανάσης" Τσακίρης , born January 15, 1965 in Drama ) is a Greek cross-country skier and biathlete . Tsakiris is one of the "veterans" of biathlon. He ran his first of five Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 as a cross-country skier. In addition, he participated in various biathlon world championships from 1989 in Feistritz to 2008 in Östersund .

Athanasios Tsakiris lives and trains in Drama and competes for EOS Dramas . The sports teacher, who trains himself, is married, has two children and speaks German. At first he was a cross-country skier. As such, he was part of the Greek national team since 1983 and took part in the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary. He finished 72nd over 15 kilometers and 76th over 30 kilometers. For the 1988/89 season he switched to biathlon, but has also competed in cross-country competitions again and again, especially since the second half of the 2000s. The Greek contested his first race at a sprint in Les Saisies , where he finished 75th. In the same season, Tsakiris started at the 1989 World Cup in Feistritz. There he came in individual on the 71st place. In his second 1992 Olympic Games of Albertville his first performance at the biathlon and was 79th in the sprint and 42 of function SINGLE. Athanasios Tsakiris took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. In the individual he was 80. He was the second oldest participant in Vancouver after Hubertus von Hohenlohe . At 45 years and 34 days, he was the oldest biathlete to ever take part in the Olympic Games when he last started. Like four years before, his daughter Panagiota Tsakiri also took part in the games as a biathlete.
