The Atuncolla District is located in the Puno Province in the Puno Region in southern Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of ​​131 km². The 2017 census counted 4817 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4830, in 2007 it was 5333. The seat of the district administration is the 3822  m high village of Atuncolla with 349 inhabitants (as of 2017). Atuncolla is located 21 km northwest of the regional and provincial capital Puno . The archaeological site of Sillustani is located on a peninsula on Lake Umayo .

Geographical location

The Atuncolla District is located in the north of the Puno Province. It is located on the north shore of Lake Umayo. The area is located in the catchment area of Lake Titicaca .

The district of Atuncolla borders in the north on the districts Cabana and Caracoto (both in the province of San Román ), in the east on the district Paucarcolla and in the southwest on the district Vilque .
