Parish history
Even before the canton of Bern recognized the Roman Catholic parishes of the Konolfingen district in 1939, the Thun parish had set up a teaching station there in 1916. After the recognition, Konolfingen belonged to the parish of Burgdorf , but was still looked after by the parish of Thun. In 1951, the Konolfingen Parish Rectorate, established in 1949, was recognized by the Canton of Bern as an auxiliary parish office. The first pastor was Paul Engler. The Roman Catholic religious association of the offices of Konolfingen and Signau , founded in 1948, decided to build a Resurrection Church with a tower, classroom and parsonage in Konolfingen in 1966. The financial plan was approved by the responsible parish of Burgdorf and the contract was placed with the Burgdorf architect Adrian Keckeis. The foundation stone was laid on September 4, 1966 and the church was ceremonially consecrated on November 25, 1967. After the founding of the independent parish, the Kultusverein was dissolved in 1970. With the neighboring parish of St. Johannes in Münsingen BE , the parish of Resurrection has formed the pastoral area Bern-Süd since 2012 and is now connected to the pastoral area of the Bern region established by Bishop Felix Gmür on May 25, 2018.
The church
Acute triangles are the most striking architectural features of the Church of the Resurrection. In the tent-like roof, which is covered with dark slate, three high dormer windows are installed on both sides. With the gable walls bent outwards, space is created inside for the organ and gallery as well as for the choir. The free-standing bell tower is shaped like a pointed triangle on an irregularly square floor plan. The parish hall and the rectory are attached to the church as side wings.
inner space
Through the high walls that rise to the ridge, the colored, refracted daylight falls through the triangular windows on both sides of the nave. The concrete glass windows were created by Karl Hausherr . In the center of the choir hangs a wooden cross with a larger than life figure of Christ from the beginning of the 17th century , supposedly from the area around Sachseln . The sculptor Ludwig Stocker designed the altar, the ambo and the base blocks of the tabernacle and the statue of the Madonna, as well as the baptismal font at the entrance, from red lava stone.
organ
The organ building of Wälti, Gümligen, 1977 created organ has 16 registers on two manuals and pedal . It has mechanical actions and slide chests .
