August Dieckmann (Major General)

Theodor August Dieckmann (born July 22, 1832 in Trier ; † January 20, 1908 ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

He was the son of a Prussian major a. D. and his wife Maria, née Verwer.

Military career

After his upbringing in his parents' house and visiting the cadet institutions in Bensberg and Berlin , Dieckmann was transferred to the 28th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on April 27, 1852 as a second lieutenant . From August 1856 to the end of April 1860 he served as an adjutant of the 1st Battalion and in the meantime became Premier Lieutenant on June 30, 1859 . As such, Dieckmann was regimental adjutant from July 7, 1860 to January 31, 1863. With his promotion to captain , he was appointed company commander on February 14, 1863 . In this capacity Dieckmann took part in the battles near Münchengrätz and Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . His behavior at Königgrätz was honored with the award of the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords.

At the beginning of the war against France , Dieckmann led his company on August 18, 1870 in the battle of Gravelotte . For this he received the Iron Cross II. Class and was company commander in the replacement battalion for the rest of the war from September 28, 1870 to January 20, 1871. After the Peace of Frankfurt Dieckmann advanced to major in February 1872 and was appointed commander of the 2nd battalion at the end of December 1872. In this capacity, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on April 18, 1878 . Dieckmann was finally transferred to Metz on July 20, 1882 , appointed commander of the 3rd Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 29 , which was still stationed there at the time , and promoted to colonel on September 13, 1882 . For his achievements in troop leadership Dieckmann received the Order of the Red Eagle III on the occasion of the Order Festival in 1884. Class with swords on rings.

In approval of his resignation request , Dieckmann was put up for disposal on July 6, 1886 with the statutory pension and permission to wear the regimental uniform. After his departure, Wilhelm I awarded him the Order of the Crown, Second Class, on September 4, 1886 and, on January 15, 1888, the character of Major General.

Dieckmann was married to Henriette, nee Hasse. In 1890 a son was a second lieutenant in the 7th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 69 .
