August of Saxony (1589-1615)
August of Saxony (born September 7, 1589 in Dresden , † December 26, 1615 in Naumburg ) from the Albertine line of the Wettins was administrator of the diocese of Naumburg .
Life
August was the youngest son of Elector Christian I of Saxony (1560–1591) from his marriage to Sophie (1568–1622), daughter of Elector Johann Georg von Brandenburg. His older brothers Christian II and Johann Georg I were successively Electors of Saxony . From the latter August received an annual pension of 21,000 guilders as well as the Senftenberg office .
He married on January 1, 1612 in Dresden Elisabeth (1593-1650), daughter of Duke Heinrich Julius of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . The marriage remained childless.
August studied at the University of Wittenberg , where Wolfgang Hirschbach was given the task of leading the young nobleman in his training. During this time he led the rectorate of the university from the winter semester 1601–1606 , the academic presence of the office led a vice rector. He died a sudden death in Dresden at the age of 26 and was buried in Freiberg Cathedral .
