Austin Chisangu Liato is a Zambian politician .

Austin Liato was previously a member of the Pan-African Parliament and, since 1998, Vice-President of the Zambian trade union confederation, the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions . In 1998 he was only barely defeated in the election for President swe ZCTU. In 2000 he was accused of theft at ZESCO and fired, which later had to be revoked when all salaries were paid back. He was Deputy Minister for Energy and Hydropower Development, which cannot be fixed in time. January 2005 he was supposed to be Minister for the Copperbelt , which met with opposition and was revoked by President Levy Mwanawasa. He was Minister of Lusaka Province in early 2006 . He was appointed Deputy Minister for Labor and Social Affairs after the 2006 election in Zambia . He has served since 2001 for the United Party for National Development , of which he was vice-chairman, and the Kaoma constituency in the National Assembly of Zambia , an election subject to purchased votes. The UPND therefore expelled him on July 7, 2003, together with Benny Tetamashimba . He then switched to the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy and again won the mandate in Kaoma in 2006.

Austin Liato is a son-in-law of Levy Mwanawasa and married to his daughter Miriam from his first marriage. His election in Kaoma received extremely critical comments.
