Austrian Studies Association

The Austrian Studies Association ( ASA ) is an interdisciplinary academic organization in North America that deals with various aspects of Austrian culture and modern Austrian history.

Organization and history

The association emerged from the International Arthur Schnitzler Research Association founded in 1961 and operated under the name Modern Austrian Literature and Culture Association ( MALCA ) until 2012 . It organizes a conference once a year (most recently: University of Vienna 2010, Washington & Jefferson College in Washington (Pennsylvania) 2011, California State University, Long Beach 2012, University of Waterloo , Ontario , 2013, University of Texas at Austin 2014) and organizes sessions at other conferences such as those of the German Studies Association or the Modern Language Association . It publishes the quarterly journal Journal of Austrian Studies , which was called the Journal of Austrian Literature ( MAL ) until the ASA was renamed in 2012 and is currently published by the University of Nebraska .

Members

The Austrian Studies Association has been chaired by the literary and cultural scientist Imke Meyer ( University of Illinois at Chicago ), who replaced the Austro-American film historian , film producer , German scholar and writer Robert Dassanowsky as president. The board members include well-known American and Austrian scientists, including Thomas Antonic , Katherine Arens , Susanne Hochreiter and Heidi Schlipphacke . Honorary members of the organization are Ruth Beckermann , Valie Export , Lilian Faschinger , Paul Harather , Josef Haslinger , Peter Henisch , Agnes Husslein-Arco , Elfriede Jelinek , Barbara Neuwirth , Hans Raimund , Götz Spielmann , Peter Rosei , Peter Tscherkassky , Matti Bunzl , Michael Loebenstein , Christoph Thun-Hohenstein .
