Avdira ( Greek Άβδηρα ( n. Pl. )) Has been a municipality in the northeastern Greek region of East Macedonia and Thrace since 2011 . It is named after the city of the same name, whose name comes from the nearby ancient city of Abdera . The parish is divided into three parish districts. The administrative seat is in Genisea .

The municipality of Avdira is located in western Thrace on the Aegean Sea . To the west is the municipality of Topiros , north of Xanthi and east of Iasmos with Lake Vistonida , as well as Komotini in the extreme southeast .
Administrative division
The municipality Avdira was formed by the administrative reform in 2010 from the former municipalities Avdira , Vistonida and Selero , which have since had the status of municipal districts. The administrative seat is the city of Genisea . According to the 2011 census, the parish had 19,005 inhabitants.
