Nevrokopi ( Greek Νευροκόπι ( n. Sg. )) Is a municipality in the Greek East Macedonia . It is the coldest municipality in Greece. The main town is the small town of the same name with (2011) 2157 inhabitants.
Surname
The official name of the city is Kato Nevrokopi (Κάτω Νευροκόπι, 'lower' or 'lower Nevrokopi'). The town of Goze Deltschew , located around 30 km further north in the mountains in what is now the Bulgarian part of Macedonia , originally had the Greek name Ano Nevrokopi (Άνω Νευροκόπι, 'Ober-Nevrokopi', Bulgarian Неврокоп Newrokop ). Today the community does without the addition and simply calls itself Nevrokopi. The Slavic name of the main town Nevrokopi is Zarnovo ( Cyrillic Зърнево ).
geography
Nevrokopi is located in the southern foothills of the Pirin Mountains and the southern Rhodope Mountains , which are separated by the Nestos River . The area around the towns of Nevrokopi and Lefkogia forms two small plains around 500 meters high, which are surrounded on all sides by mountains: To the south and west, the Vrondous Mountains and Menikio shield the area from the Strymonas plain The Falakro Nevrokopi mountain range, which rises to an altitude of 2,229 meters, separates the south and east from the plain of the upper Angistis , where Drama is also located. This western part of the municipality drains into the Strymonas , near Lefkogia there is a small reservoir with Lake Lefkogia . The eastern part of the municipality is located in the Nestos river system, which is dammed several times. The upper section of the Thissavros reservoir is located in the municipality, with the much smaller Potami reservoir immediately above it.
In the north, Nevrokopi borders the Bulgarian oblasts of Blagoevgrad and Smoljan , and then (clockwise) borders with the municipalities of Drama and Prosotsani in Eastern Macedonia and Serres and Sindiki in the east of Central Macedonia .
