Březí (German Freiles , also Freyles ) is a district of the municipality of Kamenný Újezd in the Czech Republic . It is located eight kilometers southwest of České Budějovice in South Bohemia and belongs to the Okres České Budějovice .

Březí is located on a plateau on the right side above the Vltava valley . Road I / 3 / E 55 runs between České Budějovice and Velešín one kilometer east of the village .

Neighboring towns are Černý Dub in the north, Zátkův Mlýn, Boršov nad Vltavou , Poříčí , Sokolov, Čtyři Chalupy and Včelná in the northeast, Na Dolech in the east, Kamenný Újezd in the southeast, Mašek, U Kotka, Hvízdalka, Jamné in the south U Rechlí and Zahorčice in the west and Koroseky and Dvůr Koroseky in the northwest.

The first written mention of the place took place in 1375 as the possession of the Lords of Wgezt, they built a new castle south of the place in the rocks above the Vltava, which became their seat. The rulership was split up through inheritance divisions, which came into the possession of the Rosenbergs in 1455 and was thus attached to the Krumlov rulership . Until the 19th century, a bridge over the Vltava led to Payreschau and Cernoduben near the mill . In 1840 Freyles / Březy consisted of 15 houses with 132 inhabitants. The village belonged Dominikalmühle Druken (today Zátkův Mlyn ) with Brettsäge and a wooden rake in Moldavia and the monolayer Maschek, Chotek and Wizdal. The castle ruins, which are located in the cliffs above the Vltava and named after the nearby Hof Chotek, were mistaken for the ancestral seat of the Counts Chotek because of the similarity of names . The village was parish to Steinkirchen . Until the middle of the 19th century, Freyles always remained submissive to Krumlov.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Březí / Freyles 1850 a district of the municipality Kamenný Újezd in the district administration Budějovice / Budweis. In 1884, the brothers Vlastimil and Dobroslav Zátka built the largest noodle factory in Austria-Hungary on the site of their father's grain mill Zátkův mlýn on the Vltava between Březí and Pořičí. In 1913 the place had 190 inhabitants, of which 187 were Czechs and three Germans. In 1991 there were 34 inhabitants in Březí. In the 2001 census, 43 people lived in the town's 18 houses.

The Bratři Zátkové company (Zátka brothers ) was nationalized in 1948 and returned to the Zátka family after 1990. Today Europasta SE Divize Bratři Zátkové has a share of one fifth of the pasta market in the Czech Republic.
