history

Bad was first mentioned in 1684 after a sulfur water spring was discovered during renovation work on the mill in 1683, which was first taken in 1710. Based on examinations by the personal physicians of the Duke of Württemberg, the spring was declared a healing well in 1711 . The effects of the War of the Spanish Succession ended the bathing business at the beginning of the 18th century, the well and mill were destroyed and the mineral spring was forgotten. In 1816, the mill owner Michael Lorenz had the spring rimmed and bathing was resumed. Lorenz's son-in-law Friedrich Schuler, who inherited the property, built two houses with 14 rooms from 1819. The bath was expanded into a health clinic with a hotel, baths, restaurants, ballroom and pleasure garden. It served as a meeting point for the Friends of Count Alexander von Württemberg , famous guests came and went in Bad Neustadt , such as the poets Nikolaus Lenau , Karl Mayer , Eduard Mörike and Ludwig Uhland or the philosopher David Friedrich Strauss . In the description of the Waiblingen Oberamt from 1850, 1200–1500 baths are listed annually . At the end of the 19th century the number of spa guests steadily declined, soon the bath was only a climatic health resort, from 1895 a rest home for a health insurance company and from 1914 served as a hospital. In 1920 it belonged to the Stihl family , who quartered their business there. A farm building was demolished around 2000. The source dried up and attempts to find and uncover it were unsuccessful. Today the place is a residential area of Neustadt, which was incorporated into the city of Waiblingen on January 1, 1975 as part of the municipal reform.
