List of train stations in Switzerland |
The Gare de La Chaux-de-Fonds (German station La Chaux-de-Fonds ) is the main train station in the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds . It is connected to the standard gauge network of the Swiss Federal Railways as well as to two narrow-gauge lines .
history
The station was opened in 1857 when the Compagnie du Jura industriel (JI) opened the line from La Chaux-de-Fonds to Le Locle as the first section of the Neuchâtel – Le Locle-Col-des-Roches line. The station building, unlike all the others along the route, was made of stone, as it also housed the JI headquarters. The route has continued to Neuchâtel since 1859 . In 1888 the line from Biel was connected directly to the train station by a new tunnel. Before that, the route ended for 14 years at Les Convers station , where the cars were taken over by trains from Neuchâtel. In 1889, the Ponts – Sagne – La Chaux-de-Fonds Railway began operating on the meter-gauge line to Les Ponts-de-Martel . 1893 was the date in the Gare de La Chaux-de-Fonds Est ending route Saignelégier-La Chaux-de-Fonds , which is also meter gauge, about the new de Ville Hôtel bridge, which is shared by road and rail, in the La Chaux-de-Fonds station extended.
Investments
The station has three central platforms, of which the first (track 1/2) is equipped with meter-gauge tracks . The entrance building to the north, a cultural asset of regional importance , is directly connected to the level pedestrian underpass, there is no house platform. On the south side of the underpass there are two passenger elevators that connect the train station with the Rue de Commerce . A track field extends from the station about 700 meters in a south-westerly direction. There are various parking facilities and goods loading points. The facility for loading standard-gauge freight wagons onto narrow-gauge roller bolsters has not been in operation since 2010.

Bahnhofplatz
Since it was redesigned in 2015 and 2016, there has been a bus station operated by Transports Publics Neuchâtelois (transN) on Bahnhofplatz . The La Chaux-de-Fonds trolleybus was discontinued in 2014 and regular service was switched to hybrid buses . This prevented, among other things, the costs of laying the catenary that would arise due to the new bus station.
Services
In the station building there is an SBB travel center as well as several restaurants and shops, including an avec shop. A McDonald’s branch is operated in an annex to the southwest .
business
The La Chaux-de-Fonds station is served exclusively by regional lines. The operation of the lines on the standard gauge lines is shared by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) with the BLS , the Transports Publics Neuchâtelois (transN) and TER Franche-Comté . The narrow-gauge line to Saignelégier is operated by the Chemins de fer du Jura (CJ), the trains to Les Ponts-de-Martel by transN.

Rolling stock
The SBB used Stadler GTW compositions taken over from the BLS between Biel / Bienne and La Chaux-de-Fonds . Their automatic couplings make them suitable for the wing pull concept. The BLS use Re 465- hauled shuttle trains with standard wagons III , the transN trains on the Stadler-Flirt standard gauge line (TRN RABe 523 series). Since the route to France is not electrified, French X 73500 diesel railcars are used for this route . The CJ and transN only use shuttle trains on the narrow-gauge lines.
