The Lietzow (Rügen) station is the station of the municipality of Lietzow in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen . In 1891 it went into operation as a stop on the Stralsund – Sassnitz railway line and later became a train station. In addition, a line to Binz has been branching off in Lietzow since 1939 . In 2009/10 the operating site was extensively rebuilt and dismantled.

location

The Lietzow train station is located south of the village, directly on the Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden . The adjacent streets are Am Bahnhof and Spitzer Ort . The closest train station to the west is Bergen train station, about nine kilometers away as the crow flies . To the east, Prora station is about six kilometers away, and Sargard station seven kilometers.

history

With the completion of the Bergen – Sassnitz section, a simple stop was initially set up in Lietzow. Only a platform and a small reception building were planned for the travelers . A few months later, the operations center was expanded into a train station . Another platform track has also been added. In addition, there was now a goods handling facility and a loading platform . Freight traffic was officially opened on November 1, 1891 .

In 1939 the section between Lietzow and Binz , where the Prora seaside resort was to be built, went into operation. The line between Bergen and Lietzow was expanded to double tracks and the railway facilities in Lietzow were expanded. Areas of the Kleiner Jasmund Bodden were also raised for this purpose . A new platform, a 370 m long loading street , three signal boxes and a new barrier post were built.

At that time, a port in the Great Jasmunder Bodden was planned for a short time . This would have made the station even more important. However, this project was never implemented.

The line between Lietzow and Binz was initially dismantled after the Second World War . But in 1952 the line was put back into operation after being rebuilt. The guard interlocking Low now became the command interlocking B2 . The station was given the new name Lietzow (Rügen) in 1957. In order to cope with higher loads, there were reconstruction plans in the mid- 1960s , but these were not implemented. With the expansion of ferry traffic between Sassnitz and Trelleborg , the plans were reconsidered. In the Sassnitz ferry station there was not enough space for trains. For this reason, the Greifswald Railway Directorate was looking for another suitable station. There were mountains pulled and Lietzow consider opted for Lietzow. The conversion of signaling technology to light signals planned at the time was only realized with the electrification in 1989. In 1969, the loading track was removed during the superstructure work . Another renovation followed in 1971. However, the railway facilities in Lietzow were also limited, so that precise planning was necessary as to which and how many trains could be formed.

After the turn they switched to hi-signals . Freight traffic decreased rapidly after 1990. Many track systems remained unused. Many plants were dismantled in 2009. Almost all the sidings were removed and the transverse support structure of the overhead line was adapted to the new conditions. In 2010, the operations center was rebuilt in such a way that the outer platform tracks were omitted and there are only two main and secondary tracks today. A new central platform was built. Since then, personnel to secure travelers is no longer necessary, the transfer of travelers is technically secured. A few months later, a contact line system remained, which was then quickly removed. The signaling technology was converted to Ks signals and the new electronic signal box was set up in the old signal box building . Except for the dispatcher , all railway workers were withdrawn in 2011.

Platforms and tracks

Before the renovation, the Lietzow station had three platform tracks. The numbers of these tracks were 4, 20 and 22. Track 22 was in front of the station building. Mainly the trains to Binz went here . Trips to Sassnitz and Bergen were also possible. The platform on the track was 220 meters long. The passenger trains went to Stralsund on track 20 . It could also be used for trips to Binz and Sassnitz. It was also used for locomotive circulation of the Binz passenger trains. The platform was 300 meters long. Track 4 was also 300 meters long. It was used for exits in all directions and train passes.

In addition to the platform tracks, there were other track systems in Lietzow. Track 2 was a continuous main track, where trips took place in all directions. Track 1 was a crossing and passing track. Tracks 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 were siding . At the same time, the thirteenth track was also a loading track and was 670 meters long. At the exit in the direction of Bergen was track 17, on which mostly a pushing locomotive was parked. In the direction of Binz there was pull-out track 15. This ended at the Saiser Bach .

Reception building

The reception building is empty today. It was damaged once before by a burning dumpster.

A railcar that was used as a holiday home stood next to the building on the former loading platform. After the track was removed, it was parked on a track yoke near the goods shed . In 1992 the railcar was scrapped.

Security technology

Due to its location, the Lietzow train station was divided into three route inspection districts. Dispatcher, switch keeper and barrier post each formed a test area. By closing a key, point and barrier attendants had to inform the dispatcher that their respective district was free.

Until after 1990 the station was equipped with form signals and switches that were set by wire and operated by the B2 mechanical interlocking at the eastern exit. Lietzow later received light signals in the form of Hl signals . Since the renovation work in 2009/10, the signal systems including the points have been set by an electronic interlocking . Since then, the signals have been Ks signals . The western level crossing was secured by a mechanical full barrier. This has been computer-controlled since the renovation.

Shunting operation

Lietzow did not have a shunting locomotive stationed there, but a shunter on site. Locomotives were brought in from outside for the shunting work .

Connection

The RE9 regional express , also known as the Hanse Express , serves Lietzow from Stralsund and Bergen every hour, with trains coming from Rostock every two hours. The trains run alternately to Sassnitz and Binz, with connecting trains from Lietzow to the other destination.
