The Waidbruck-Lajen Station ( Italian Stazione di Ponte Gardena Laion , Ladin Stazion de-Pruca Laion ) is located on the Brenner railway in South Tyrol .
location
The Waidbruck-Lajen train station is located at an altitude of 471 m in the lower Eisack valley . Since the opening of the Schlern Tunnel , it has been the first stop north of Bozen . It is located a few meters north of the village center of Waidbruck in the municipality of Lajen . On the narrow valley floor it takes the place between the Eisack - near the confluence of the Grödner Bach - and the elevated A22 . When the SS 12 and the SS 242 meet, Waidbruck is an important hub for individual traffic.
history
The Waidbruck station was put into operation in 1867 together with the entire section of the Brenner Railway between Innsbruck and Bolzano. The reception building soon proved to be too small and was enlarged in the 19th century. In the early 20th century, minor structural additions were made.
In the years 2014–2015, the State of South Tyrol financed extensive renovation and modernization measures. The facade, roof, window sash and waiting room of the reception building were renewed, and among other things, elevators were installed, P + R spaces created and retaining walls erected. In 2014, the extension of the station name goes back to the previous from the train station Waidbruck the Waidbruck-Lajen station was.
Buildings
The reception building designed by Wilhelm von Flattich is relatively well preserved in the original state of its construction. It is made of porphyry . Various construction details such as the window and door frames are also made of the same material. The roof gables are decorated with wooden decorative inserts. To the north is a long building with a tower that served as a workshop and water station. These historical buildings have been under monument protection since 2004.
function
Waidbruck-Lajen station is served by regional trains from Trenitalia and SAD , which also operates several bus connections to the station. Since it is the only stopping point on the Brenner Railway that is still in operation in the vicinity, it has a central function for the surrounding communities in the lower Eisack Valley.
