The Bahnhofsviertel is a district in the Mitte district in the independent city of Hof in Bavaria .

Location and history

The Bahnhofsviertel lies south of the city center . The Saale flows to the east of the district and the main train station to the west .

The Bahnhofsviertel was formerly the suburb of Rauschenbach at the gates of the city. With the new main train station, the district gained importance. A post office was also attached to the main train station. Much of the development was built in the early days. The Bahnhofstrasse and Königstrasse, among other places, were partially destroyed by bombing during World War II. The houses were replaced or rebuilt in the following years.

On September 4, 2019, there was a large-scale operation in Sophienstrasse . A package containing an unknown substance had been found. The residents of the house were then examined, but they were not at risk. According to the investigators, the package came from the Netherlands . It turned out that there was only one diabetes sensor in the package, this should have been marked as dangerous goods.

Culture

In the past, the Bahnhofsviertel was a working-class district, to which more and more guest workers moved.

The quarter is now a lifestyle and trendy quarter . Many artists have settled in the last few years. The development was comparable to that of Berlin-Kreuzberg , for example .

Art exhibitions are increasingly taking place in the district, for example the street art exhibition.

The Kunstkaufhaus is a bar where artists often perform.

The Scala cinema in Wörthstrasse was built in 1929. The cinema, together with the Central Cinema, is the screening location for the Hof Film Festival . The ambience of the 1920s has been retained because modernizations were largely avoided.
